In The Beginning…

Its founder, Alan James Chapelhow, first established A J & D CHAPELHOW LTD in 1961 as a general joiners business.

By 1981 A J & D Chapelhow Ltd had grown from general joinery to the construction and erection of timber-framed houses. It was also in this year that Mr Chapelhow had established another company with a Norwegian associate, which was named the Norwegian Building Agency (NBA). The NBA later changed its name to Nor-Dan UK Ltd.  We still work alongside Nor-Dan today.

In 1982 A J & D Chapelhow Ltd began manufacturing pre-finished timber windows with factory glazing, and in 1984 the construction of timber windows and doors was in full production.

1988 saw the businesses 4,000 square foot factory expand into a 20,000 square foot, purpose built industrial unit on Ling Park, Cliburn, near Penrith. Another 8,000 square foot was then added in 2001 to enable A J & D Chapelhow to efficiently manage with its escalating business.

Four Decades of Pride…

With over four decades of experience A J & D Chapelhow’s aims remain intact and we continue to produce the fine quality timber windows and doors we are renowned for.

Over the years A J & D Chapelhow Ltd has continued to invest in it’s company by using the latest sophisticated machinery to ensure consistently high quality output, including the Windor 60 which is still the only machine of it’s specification in the UK. The installation of the company’s latest machine, the Windor 20, alongside the company’s existing flock of machines, has made A J & D Chapelhow Ltd one of the largest independent joinery manufacturers in the UK.

Working Today for Tomorrow…

A J & D Chapelhow Ltd now employs over thirty members of staff, all highly skilled and enthusiastic in creating the high performance, fine quality doors and windows which have given the business the enviable reputation which has remained throughout the companies history. It is due to this attention of quality to both service and manufacture which will see A J & D Chapelhow Ltd well into the future.

Machinery ...

“We supply ‘top-of –the-range’ joinery therefore we purchase ‘top-of-the-range’ machinery.”

As mentioned previously we recently installed a Windor 20 CNC Machining Centre for Window and Door Components to work alongside our existing machine the Windor 60. The Windor 60 is the only one of its specification in the UK. These machines along with others in our workshop make Ling Joinery one of the largest independent joinery manufacturers in the UK.

We are a great believer in CNC machines and decided 3 years ago to embark on the purchasing of the latest modern technology, making the machining process far more easier for our operatives, with the consequent advantages of better surface finish and accuracy, thus making the assembly process very simple and easy.

In October 2006 we installed a new semi-automatic press from Italy.  The press was manufactured by Italpresse and it is the Falcon/s model.  It is able to accept a window 4m wide x 2.5m high.  One of the features of the new press, is its ability to adjust the pressure; the top bar is capable of putting a pressure of 19 ton on to a window.

I just had to write to say what a pleasure it has been to deal with your company. From the moment we made our initial enquiry, to our later hesitation, to the final carrying out of the job my partner and I have been impressed with your ‘customer care’. During our ‘hesitation’ phase we visited your workshop and even though our order must have been small compared to the majority of your work, we
were treated seriously and with courtesy.

Best Wishes,
Dick Brown
